Mi Angel Gabriel

Gabriel not only appropriately represents lightness, but also fits into the religious imagery I have used to describe the property of lightness. Gabriel is, in Abrahamic religions, an angelic messenger to God. In some traditions he is considered an Archangel and also, in some instances, serves as the angel of death. In Christian and Muslim teachings, Gabriel foretold the births of John the Baptist and Jesus. Also, Islam believes that he was the one who revealed God’s Qur’an to Muhammad. Angels in general are good symbols in representing lightness. Their physical form is typically pure in image. They are also depicted frequently with wings, or are positioned amongst the clouds. Angels transcend the limitations of humanity, as conveyed through their proximity to God. The angel Gabriel in particular demonstrates traits of lightness. Apart from his generalized angelic traits, Gabriel is singled out as God’s messenger. In this way, he functions similar to Hermes. He transmits the will of God between the world of spirits and the world of humans. He shows how lightness can dissolve the boundaries between Earth and Heaven.

Gabriel

I can fly
but i want his wings
I can shine even in the darkness
but i crave the light that he brings
Revel in the songs that he sings
My angel Gabriel

I can love
but i need his heart
I am strong even on my own
but from him i never want to part
He's been there since the very start
My angel Gabriel
My angel Gabriel

Bless the day he came to be
Angel's wings carried him to me
heavenly
I can fly
but i want his wings
I can shine even in the darkness
but i crave the light that he brings
Revel in the songs that he sings
My angel gabriel
My angel gabriel
My angel gabriel
